Storage in detail
Where diagrams are stored introduces the four storage modes. This page covers what happens around their edges.
The local cache
Section titled “The local cache”A diagram’s mode says which copy is authoritative, not that it is the only copy. Except in
local-workspace, every save also writes the rendered diagram to your browser’s storage — cloud
diagrams included. So a cloud diagram you have opened leaves a cached copy on that device, and a
diagram you move to the cloud does not stop being present in browser storage.
The cache is per-device and private to your browser, and clearing site data removes it. But if your reason for moving a diagram to the cloud is to get it off a particular machine, move it and then clear nifdi’s site data on that machine.
Moving to the cloud
Section titled “Moving to the cloud”Move to cloud and Copy to cloud both create a new cloud diagram with its own id. Move then removes the original from browser storage; copy leaves it there. Only you can open the new cloud diagram until you share it.
Moving back
Section titled “Moving back”Copy to browser saves an editable local-browser copy and leaves the cloud diagram in place.
Move to browser saves the same copy and then deletes the cloud diagram, exactly as deleting it from your diagram list does. From that moment nobody can open it, you included: it leaves every listing, the people you shared it with lose access, and your agents can no longer reach it. Its stored content is kept for 30 days so that a mistake can be put right, then the keys that unlock it are destroyed. The Privacy Policy says when the last backup copy goes.
When Pro ends
Section titled “When Pro ends”If your Pro plan ends, your cloud diagrams stay in the cloud but become read-only, for you and for everyone you shared them with. Nothing is deleted. The editor shows a Read-only badge, and you can still view and export each diagram.
To keep working on one, use Copy to browser or Move to browser, as above. Move deletes the cloud diagram, so the people you shared it with lose access. Upgrade again instead, and your cloud diagrams are editable at once with their sharing intact. See Billing and cancellation.
Files on disk
Section titled “Files on disk”Nifdi remembers where a local-file diagram is so it can appear in your diagram list, but removing
it from that list only forgets the location — the file itself stays on your disk.
Local files cannot currently be transferred to another mode from the storage panel.
Workspace files
Section titled “Workspace files”The storage panel shows the path of the file backing an open local-workspace diagram.
