Hosted MCP

The local MCP server works on diagram files on your own machine. The hosted MCP server works on the cloud diagrams in your nifdi account instead, including diagrams other people have shared with you. Your agent connects to it over the internet, so there is nothing to install.

The hosted MCP server is part of nifdi Pro. A Free account can still connect an agent, but the agent is told inside the conversation that its tools need Pro, and where to upgrade.

Add this address to your agent as a remote MCP server:

https://nifdi.app/api/mcp

The first time the agent uses it, your browser opens to sign in to nifdi and asks you to approve the agent. Once you approve it, the agent keeps working without asking again until you disconnect it.

If you are already signed in to nifdi in that browser, the agent connects as that account. To connect as a different account, sign out of nifdi in the browser first.

A connected agent acts as you. It can open the diagrams you can open, and only those:

  • on a diagram you own, or are an editor of, it can read and edit;
  • on a diagram you are a reader of, it can read but not edit;
  • it can create new cloud diagrams in your account.

Your access is checked again on every call the agent makes. If someone removes you from a diagram, or makes you a reader, your agent loses that access on its next call too. Anything the agent does is recorded as done by you.

An agent cannot see or manage your account itself. It cannot list your connected agents, disconnect one, or change who a diagram is shared with.

Reading tools, such as fetching or rendering a diagram, are limited to 120 calls a minute across all of your agents. Editing is not limited. An agent that goes over the limit is told how long to wait, and can keep editing in the meantime.
